Your Edition
Privacy
Effective 2026-05-15.
Your Edition is a daily news email. The shorter version of this document: we collect your email address, we collect any topics and sources you choose, we use those to pick which stories you get, we don't sell or share that data with anyone outside the services we need to send the email, and you can leave at any time with one click.
Who we are
Your Edition is operated by Alex Tikotzky as an independent publication. When this policy says "we" it means me. The publication is based in the United States and you can reach me at hello@youredition.news for anything related to your data or this policy.
What we collect
The signup form captures, all from you, all voluntary:
- Your email address. Required; we can't send you a newsletter without it.
- Section preferences (optional). The seven topic checkboxes: politics, markets, tech, world, sports, culture, science. If you don't pick any we send the default mix.
- Source preferences (optional). The list of named publications you'd like us to favor when their stories qualify for your edition.
- Free-text interests (optional, 160 characters max). A short note about what else you're tracking, used as context for the ranker.
After signup we also record clicks on the feedback links embedded in each issue: thumbs-up, thumbs-down, "Less from this source." Each click is stored as a small event keyed to your email address, the story (or source), and the time you clicked.
We do not use tracking pixels, advertising cookies, analytics scripts, or anything else that watches you browsing other sites. The site sets no cookies. The emails contain no open-tracking beacons or click-tracking redirects; the links you see are the real destination URLs.
Why we collect it
Exactly two reasons:
- To deliver the daily issue to your inbox.
- To shape your edition: filter to the sections you care about, favor the sources you like, drop sources you've blocked, and over time adapt to which stories you keep reading.
We do not use your data to train any third-party AI model, target you with ads, build a profile we'd sell, or share with a partner that does any of those things. We don't have partners.
Where it lives
Two places, both required to actually deliver the email:
- Vercel KV stores your subscriber record (email, preferences, status) and your click events. Vercel's data processor is Upstash. Both are US-based service providers we hold a contract with.
- Resend is the email sending service that puts the daily issue in your inbox. Resend processes your email address to deliver the message and the bounce status that comes back.
We don't send your data anywhere else. We don't mirror it to an advertising network. We don't share it with a partner publication. There is no analytics provider.
How long we keep it
- Your subscriber record persists for as long as you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe we mark the record inactive and stop sending. Inactive records age out and are deleted after seven days unless you resubscribe.
- Click events are kept for 90 days. After that, the raw events are deleted but the aggregate signal they produced (a small set of weights per subscriber) lives on as long as your subscriber record does.
- Delivery logs (which issue went to whom on which day) are retained for the duration of your subscription for debugging and resend safety. They go away when your record is deleted.
Your rights
You can do all of these without contacting us:
- Unsubscribe. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer. One click stops the next send.
- Edit your preferences. Every issue also has a "Preferences" link. The form is pre-filled with what we have on file; you can change topics, source preferences, and interests, or unblock any source you've previously blocked.
- See what we have. The preferences page shows you the topics, source preferences, and interests we've stored.
For things the page doesn't cover, including a full hard delete of your record + click history, email hello@youredition.news. We act on these within 30 days, usually within a day.
If you're in the EU, the UK, or California (or anywhere with comparable rules) you also have a statutory right to a copy of your data, correction of inaccuracies, restriction of processing, and to complain to your supervisory authority. Use the same contact email and we'll respond.
Legal basis (for EU/UK readers)
We rely on your consent when you sign up (giving us your email is the consent), and on legitimate interest for delivering the issue and adapting it to your stated preferences once you've subscribed. You can withdraw consent any time by unsubscribing; withdrawal doesn't affect anything that happened before.
Cookies and tracking
The website (youredition.news) sets no cookies. There is no analytics. There are no third-party scripts. The signup page is a static HTML form that posts to one of our own API routes.
The emails contain no tracking pixels or open-tracking beacons. Click-tracking redirects are not used; the links in the email go to the original article URLs you'd expect. The only exception is the four signed feedback links per issue (thumbs up, thumbs down, "Less from source", Preferences, Unsubscribe) and your unsubscribe link, which go to our own API routes so we can record the action.
Children
Your Edition is not directed at children under 16. If we learn we've collected data from someone under 16 we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything that meaningfully affects what we do with your data, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and send a notice to your subscriber email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. You can unsubscribe in response to any change you don't like.
